Sound is music, sound is art. Even silence, because silence tells its own story. If you don't understand an art piece, it does not make it any less art, maybe it is objective is to not be understood, to be random. John Cages 4'33 is an example of this, audiences did not understand what was going on when he was "playing" the piano on stage, anger and confusion arose. That is what makes it art, it invoked emotion, whether it is straightforward like a sad painting or its deeper than that. The reaction is the art. John cage did what he wanted to, he experimented with sounds, or lack there of, and continued to do what he wanted, even if the public opinion of his art was negative. His art makes people ask questions to think, what does this mean? is this even art? what is art? what makes something art? Questions like that are still around and debated today. In the art world, and even the world of looking at art, the question "what makes art, art?" is always being talked about. People agree, some people disagree. Like art is subjective, and it always will be. The question of what makes art art, will never be answered, and no one will ever have the same answer. John Cage left a lasting impression on the art world and changed it, even if he didnt intend on it.
